Merilyn founded Catalina Consultants in 2012 on the belief that all organisations should have access to the same cutting-edge HR ideas and practices as Australia’s largest companies, regardless of their size.

Merilyn began her life as a chartered accountant. In fact, she was previously a partner at Crowe Horwath, one of Australia’s largest accounting firms.

This experience gave her the opportunity to work closely with many high performing SMEs. It also convinced her that it was so often the people, and not simply the numbers, that determined whether a business succeeded. For that reason she crossed over to become Crowe Horwath’s HR Director.

Now Merilyn works with business owners and senior management to ensure their HR and business strategies align. She believes that the best results are built on a relationship of rapport, trust and authenticity. So she works hard to understand where every one of her clients is coming from, as well as their goals and objectives.

Merilyn understands that good HR is about trying to make a decision that is best for both the business and for the individual. This can be a massive challenge but it is also what she loves most about her work.

Megan works directly with our clients to provide targeted advice on a broad range of HR issues. She believes the best advice comes from truly understanding her clients so that she can anticipate their needs.

Megan’s organisation skills are legendary and she is able to slip into any environment with grace and ease. She’s also particularly skilled when it comes to developing workplace policies and also guides our clients on key HR areas such as performance issues, training and development and strategic recruitment.

Megan was drawn to HR while studying for a Business degree at UTS because it gave her the chance to work closely with a range of people from recent grads to CEOs. She has more than 10 years experience in HR across industries as diverse as law, accounting, IT, banking and finance and retail.

As a senior member of the Catalina Consultants team, Stephanie works across a range of services – from advising clients on employee relations to conducting training and induction programs. Steph loves the variety of her role, not least because it gives her the chance to meet so many people who are passionate about both their business and their people.

Steph believes that the best way she can add value to our clients’ businesses is when she knows them inside-out. So she takes time to understand how they work and what they want to achieve before working with them collaboratively to help them get there.

Steph first got a taste for a career in HR while studying a combined Arts/Commerce degree at Sydney University. She didn’t simply enjoy her subjects, she also got an insight into just how important Human Resources is to every business, every manager and every employee.

Since then she’s worked in a range of industries, including law, accounting, health and education. She’s delighted that her work with Catalina Consultants allows her to use her experience across all these industries, and many new ones.

Super-organised Emma is responsible for coordinating the full spectrum of Catalina’s HR services, from recruitment and policy review through to creating and administering contracts.

Emma was attracted to HR because it offered both a variety of work and the chance to help businesses get the most out of their people. She has experience in both the public and private sectors and previously worked in the Sydney office of a national accounting firm.

Emma gets a real kick out of seeing something through from beginning to end and witnessing the difference good HR practices can make for an organisation and its employees. She believes in honesty, integrity and accountability, and prides herself on always having the answer, even if she has to go to great length to find it. This tenacity is something we all love about Emma, and our clients love it too.

Brianna Lecinski

As a Junior HR Consultant, Brianna helps our team provide a range of support to our clients.

Brianna developed a passion for HR while studying an undergraduate degree in organisational psychology. This led her to complete a Certificate IV in Human Resources after finishing university. She now puts theory into practice as part of the Catalina team.

Brianna’s warm disposition makes her a natural at building relationships with our clients. And she’s great at prioritising the ‘human’ dimension of Human Resources. We also love her commitment and hard-working attitude – she gets a real buzz out of helping our clients reach their goals.

Elena keeps things running smoothly here at Catalina Consultants. She provides both office and workflow support, and is our go-to team member for recruitment administration, including reference checks and phone interviews.

Before joining us at Catalina Consultants, Elena held roles in sales and marketing. She made the switch to HR because that’s what she’s studying, and she loves meeting and dealing with a diverse range of people. Now she gets to do just that in a professional context.

Over her career, Elena has learned that there¹s always a way to get the job done even when it seems complex or challenging. That’s why she believe in taking the initiative, being persistent and communicating with transparency.

Erin works alongside our clients, making sure everything we do supports the management, values and direction of their organisations. Erin is a stickler for detail and accuracy which makes her perfect for staying on top of our client’s administrative needs. She’s a real people person who loves building relationships with our clients and we find they love her back just as much – not only because of her fondness for hard work, but also because of her infectious ability to have fun while she’s doing it.
